About the Artist 

Hans-Peter Bolz always had the desire to become an artist, even at an early age growing up in postwar Germany.  His first grade teacher recognized his talent and encouraged him to keep painting as long as he enjoyed it.  At the age of 14, his dream was to move to Munich or Paris to paint.  His parents strongly suggested in order to make a living and support himself, to start an apprenticeship and become a toolmaker first.  His next 40 years were absorbed by life, including being drafted into the German Air Force, college, plastic injection molding, and family, including raising a child.

Hans-Peter's formal training includes a course in commercial art, illustration and design with the famous Artists School International, Inc.

Hans-Peter never lost interest in art, especially in painting, and in 2005 he picked up brushes, paint and canvas and began to paint again.  He prefers to paint in oil because it is a very workable medium that gives you unlimited shades of color.

Artist Statement

I paint because I love it.  Oil on canvas is my favorite medium.  Creating a painting is a process full of challenges, and it forces me to make decisions about composition, mood, light and shadow, texture and size.  Photos, books and newspapers are my inspirations.  I am fascinated by the human form and facial expressions, as well as by animals, landscapes, and all things around me.  When the process of painting is finished and a piece of art is created, and it pleases me, I am happy.  In my art, one will not find answers, but hopefully some questions.
